HIKING / TREKKING

The natural landscape and its special terrain make Amorgos an ideal destination for outdoor activities such as hiking. Paths that begin or end in some residential area, offer the traveler enchanting images with a constant view of the big blue in a rocky, island scenery so intense, wild and imposing that it magically reveals all its beauty and the hidden treasures of Amorgos. Cobbled alleys, the sun, the wind, the aroma of all kinds of herbs, all comprise a dream – like scenery for every visitor. Today, there are seven and mapped paths as well as other smaller ones of particular interest.

1. Path of “Palia Strata” with enticing view of the big blue

Chora – Chozoviotissa Monastery – Xenodochio – Argilos – Asfoltilitis – Oxo meria – Potamos – Aigiali Bay

2. Path of “Fotodotis”

Katapola (Pera Rachidi) – Milies – Agia Eirini – Chora

Distance: 3 km
Estimated time 1 hour ascent, 40 min descent
Level of difficulty: easy

3. Path of “Itonia” aged 4000 years old

Katapola – Minoa – Lefkes – Agia Thekli – Agioi Saranta – Dokathismata – Kamari – Panagia Kastriani – Ancient Arkesini – Vroutsi – Rachoula – Arkesini

Distance: 13 km

4. Path of “Melania”, with a wonderful view of Aigiali Bay

Aigiali Bay – Lagatha – Stroubos – Tholaria – Fokiotripa

5. Path of “Pan”, with a  view form high up the wild side of Amorgos

Lagatha – Agios Theologos – Stavros – Kroukelos

Distance: 7 km

6. Path of “Valsamitis”, a walk into the landscape of Amorgos

Katapola – Agios Georgios Valsamitis – Agia Marina – Minoa – Katapola

Distance: 6 km

7. Path of “Evagelistria”, with a panoramic view of the natural harbor of Katapola

Katapola – “Ta Nera” area – Peristeria –Faros Ai Lia – Evagelistria – Katapola

Distance: 4 km

Other shorter, enjoyable routes that will lead you to remote beaches, picturesque villages, small churches and hilltops are the following:

 

1) Chora – Agia Anna beach (30 min descent, 1 hour ascent)
2) Chora – Terlakia – Xilokeratidi (2 hours)
3) Chora – Profitis Ilias (1 hour  15 min)
4) Arkesini – Ammoudi beach (30 descent, 45 min ascent)
5) Arkesini – Mavri Miti – Porto Akrotiri (45 min)
6) Tholaria – Mikri Vlichada Bay (30 min descent, 45 min acent)
7) Tholaria – Chrisostomos – Faros – Chochlakas – Fokiotripa (2 hours)
8) Asfontilitis – Plakes – Chalara beach (2 hours)

Both in Katapola Bay and the small bay of Aegiali there are organized diving centers staffed with highly experienced diving instructors ready to reveal the secrets of the seabed of Amorgos to you.
